Travel Information

By Air:

KCI  Airport – about 30 miles from UMKC 
Airlines: Southwest ( look for internet fares), Delta, Continental, United, Air Canada, American, Frontier, US Air,  and several others.  See http://www.flykci.com/Direction/Directions/Index.htm for complete list.

Rental cars are available. Many shuttle services are available.   KCI Shuttle costs $18/person each way to Plaza and Westport hotels (no discount for round trip).  No reservation required for the trip to KC, but 24-hr reservation required for return trip to airport.  Call  816-243-5000 or 800-243-5000 for reservation.

Follow the directions on the web page for going to the University Center, but instead of turning in to the parking lot for UCenter, keep going straight on Rockhill.  The first stop light you come to is at the corner of Rockhill and 51st.  Flarsheim is the building on your right as you cross 51st St.  On this campus map: http://www.umkc.edu/pdf/maps/locator-2pg.pdf, Flarsheim is located at H15.  On the corner of the next block (between 52nd and 53rd on Rockhill) is a parking garage.  You can enter the garage either by turning right on 52nd, then left into the lot, or by turning right on 53rd and then right into the lot.   If you park on the 1st or second level, walk out to the street, then across 52nd to Flarsheim.  In the event of inclement weather, you can take the skywalk on the 4th level of the garage- but you have to find your way to Flarsheim by walking through another building (Haag Hall).  We will have signs posted to help you find your way.

 

Parking stickers for Friday will be sold at marked locations in the parking garage and at the registration desk. The cost is $3 for the day.   If you want us to send you a sticker in advance, you can send $3 and a self-addressed, stamped envelope to Judy Mullins, conference chair. 

 

You don't need a parking sticker on Saturday, and can park almost anywhere.  The exceptions are the handicapped spots and any spot marked for a particular person (e.g. the Dean).  There are a limited number of parking spaces next to Flarsheim Hall, but getting one is unlikely.  You can park on the street and in lots in areas designated for faculty. If you don't want to drive around looking for a legal spot, use the garage. 

 

If you choose to stay at The Quarterage, you can leave your car there and take the free shuttle to campus and back.
