Welcome!

Welcome to the Web site of the Consortium for Computing Sciences in Colleges (CCSC). Whether you are a member of the Consortium, a participant in one of the regional conferences, or a professor or student with an interest in the issues pertaining to college computing, our hope is that you will find these pages informative and useful. Information regarding the regional conferences sponsored by the consortium is of particular interest.

About the Consortium

The purpose of the Consortium is to promote the betterment of computer-oriented curricula in two- and four-year colleges and universities; to improve the use of computing as an educational resource for all disciplines; to encompass regional constituencies devoted to this purpose; and to promote a national liaison among local, regional, and national organizations also devoted to this purpose. Predominantly these colleges and universities are oriented toward teaching, rather than research.

The Consortium holds meetings in conjunction with other computer education organizations, on its own, and sponsors sessions and tracks at such meetings. The annual meeting of the membership is held in conjunction with the ACM/SIGCSE Technical Symposium on Computer Science Education.

Fall 2024 Virtual Water Cooler Meetings – Coming Soon

In our efforts to bring more value to your CCSC membership, we are pleased to announce this summer’s the Virtual Water Cooler meetings. This is your chance to meet with other computing educators to share innovations in pedagogy, find out the latest in educational technology, or just talk about the state of our discipline. Membership Secretary Cathy Bareiss at Bethel University is the host.

From the President

Dear Colleagues,

As President of the Consortium for Computing Sciences in Colleges (CCSC), I am writing to outline our commitment to fostering a culture of openness, communication, transparency, and enhanced oversight within our organization. It is imperative that we work together to strengthen our collective impact on computing science education.

The landscape of higher education, particularly in computing sciences, has evolved rapidly in recent times. To effectively address the challenges and opportunities presented by this dynamic environment, we must prioritize open dialogue, shared decision-making, and accountability.

To this end, the CCSC will be implementing several key initiatives:

  • Enhanced Transparency: We will increase the transparency of our operations by providing regular updates on our financial health, strategic planning processes, and decision-making procedures.
  • Improved Communication: We will strengthen our communication channels to ensure that all members are informed and engaged in the consortium’s activities. This includes looking into ways to improve our online web presence, social media presence, and communication methods.
  • Strengthened Oversight: We will establish a robust oversight structure, including independent audits and evaluations, to ensure the effective and responsible use of resources. We are working on developing enhanced oversight mechanisms to ensure that CCSC remains financially capable of continuing to facilitate the wonderful collaborative conferences that every region hosts.
  • New Initiatives: We will explore new initiatives to address emerging challenges and opportunities in computing science education, such as:
    • Virtual Watercoolers
    • Virtual Summer Best of Conference

By embracing these principles and initiatives, we can create a stronger, more effective CCSC that is well-positioned to lead the advancement of computing science education.

I encourage your active participation and feedback as we embark on this journey together.

Sincerely,
Bryan Dixon, CCSC President
